African Dream Project and All Africa Games format affirmed
Cairo, Egypt, May 18, 2014 – One of the key initiatives which form part of the FIVB President Dr. Ary S. Graça F°'s plan for the development of volleyball around the world was approved by the African Volleyball Confederation "CAVB" Board of Administration, which concluded its annual meeting in Cairo, Egypt on Sunday.
The "African Dream Project" will start officially within the coming months with full details to be supplied through the national federations, the National Olympic Committees and the local authorities to achieve the goals of the project.
The CAVB Board also approved the 2015 All Africa Games format which will feature 12 teams qualifying to the finals in Congo. There will be zonal qualifications with zones 1 and 7 qualifying their champions while zones 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 will qualify the champions and runners up to the finals. The CAVB Board postponed the dates and format for the 2016 Olympic Games qualification tournament and will confirm once a full study of the international and African volleyball calendar is completed.
CAVB President Dr. Amr Elwani thanked the members for their valuable work and forward thinking.
"Every member here in the board has a very valuable opinion which helps in our general plan and can bring more to our sport." Dr. Amr Elwani said.
Other major decisions included the approval of the CAVB Financial Report presented by CAVB Treasurer Habu Gumel and included a review of the 2013 budget and approval of the 2014 financial projects.
Commission presentations were also part of the agenda where Refereeing Commission President Hassan Ahmed showed the great improvement in the number of referees. Other reports for the Sports Organising Committee "SOC", Technical, Medical, Development and Beach Commissions were also approved.
CAVB Beach Volleyball Director May Alaa informed the Board of the progress in beach volleyball over the past four years, including a presentation on the qualification tournaments in Africa for the age groups U17, U19, U21 and U23.
Zone Presidents also presented their activity reports including all the competition organised at the club and national team levels and their projects in the coming season.
