FIVB President expecting crowds to flock to Club World Championship

FIVB President, Dr Ary S. Graça F° expects the Club World Championship to be a huge success
Betim, Brazil, September 17, 2013 - FIVB President, Dr Ary S. Graça F° is confident that volleyball fans in Betim will flock to see the biggest stars of the sport when the FIVB Men’s Club World Championship takes place in the city.

Betim, a city of 375,000 people, is situated in Minas Gerais state 458 kilometres inland from Rio de Janeiro and will host the tournament from October 15-20.

In particular Dr Graça, speaking at the official signing of the organising committee agreement on Monday, expects there to be a large response from the areas miners. The region is well-known for its mining industry and their love of volleyball.

"Certainly the competition will be a blockbuster because Minas Gerais is a reference point for the volleyball world,” Dr Graça said. “It’s arguable to say that is the most important state in Brazilian volleyball. Much of the evolution of national volleyball for the last 60 years came from the mining regions.”

The tournament will take place at the Multisport Fitness Divine Braga, which holds around 7,000. About 30,000 people are expected to take in matches, while there are also plans to set up a big screen so even more fans can take in the action.

"We have no doubt that the people of Betim will come,” Dr Graça added. “We all know about the relationship miners have with volleyball. Perhaps we will need to put a screen up outside of the gym, to attract even more fans during matches.”
