FIVB President attends AVC Board of Administration meeting
Beijing, China, May 13, 2010 – FIVB President Jizhong Wei and the FIVB Executive Group stressed that solidarity is the key behind the international development of volleyball at the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) Board of Administration meeting in Beijing on Friday.
President Wei, first executive vice-president Cristobal Marte Hoffiz, second executive vice-president Theofanis Tsiokris and executive vice-president and treasurer Andre Meyer were invited to attend the AVC Board meeting for the first time in AVC history.
“We are honored to be invited to attend the AVC Board meeting and exchange views with you,” President Wei said. “This the first time we exchange views directly and I invited my colleagues to exchange views directly with you so as to maintain stability as I will step down but they will stay and continue working together.”
President Wei went on to highlight three important points.
“First, solidarity. We may have different points of views on some problems but we can have friendly discussion to reach agreement or compromise as we always try hard to maintain solidarity. Solidarity with a common goal is vital for the FIVB. All differences will be solved by mutual understanding and compromise in conformity with the FIVB Constitution.
“Second, sharing of responsibilities. The FIVB delegates the responsibilities to five Continental Confederations and provides necessary financial support to them..All elected members of FIVB and AVC as well as other continental confederations are volunteers who should never seek personal benefits from a public non profit sports federations.
“Third, transparency and democracy. No transparency means no democracy, especially on the budget issue. Money coming from sport should be used correctly for sport with a transparent monitoring mechanism.”
“I am sure the AVC will always work together with the FIVB. Though sometimes we have different views, we have a common goal to develop volleyball. Continuation of the FIVB strategic policy and stability in organisation are guarantees for FIVB further development.”
