| The new era commenced in 1984 when FIVB moved to Lausanne, Switzerland and elected a new President, who envisaged a marketing strategy with new competitions aimed at consolidating FIVB's brand identity and world class profile.
As a result, FIVB is now the largest sports organisation in the world in
terms of its 220 member National Federations, operating at continental level through 5 Confederations based in Africa, Asia, Europe, North & Central America and South America. Under FIVB guidance, these entities provide opportunities to Volleyball and Beach Volleyball event organisers, sponsors, TV broadcasters and over 500 million participating athletes world-wide.
