A world-class team ready to take
on global challenges
At its 2012 meeting that took place in
Lausanne, Switzerland in March, the FIVB
Board of Administration made a number
of decisions and proposals that were
forwarded to the FIVB World Congress for
final approval in accordance with the FIVB
The 33
FIVB World Congress and the
issue of development figured prominently
in the discussions, chaired for the
penultimate time by former President
Jizhong Wei.
The Board of Administration convened
again on the eve of the World Congress in
Anaheim, USA.
Enlarging the Executive Committee
and Board of Administration
The Board approved a proposal to
widen the membership of the Executive
Committee and Board of Administration
to reflect the increase in activities across
the FIVB’s membership and the growth
in participation of National Federations,
especially in Africa.
The affiliated National Federations
discussed the process of enlargement
with a working group to determine
exact numbers. All the comments were
presented to the Board at their meeting in
September although this would later not
be approved by the Congress.
New FIVB regulations
The Board ratified new FIVB Tribunal
Regulations, Disciplinary Regulations
(which replace the old code of conduct)
and an updated version of the General
These included the creation of a
’Disciplinary Panel’ to replace the
FIVB Disciplinary Committee, which is
responsible for all disciplinary matters
provided for in the FIVB Constitution and
Regulations. Meanwhile, an ’Ethics Panel’
is responsible for reviewing all ethical
issues and making recommendations to
the Board of Administration or Congress.
An ’Appeals Panel’ will decide on appeals
rising from any internal disputes among
FIVB members, and an ’FIVB Tribunal’
will decide on all financial disputes
concerning players, coaches and clubs as
provided for in the FIVB regulations. The
roles of the other three panels were also
Members of the ’Disciplinary and Appeals
Panel’ and the ’FIVB Tribunal’ will be
appointed by the Board of Administration
while appointments to the ’Ethics Panel’
will be decided by the Congress. It was
decided that the ’Ethics Panel’ will comprise
a chairperson, vice-chairperson and three
other members to ensure representation
of all Continental Confederations.
