WEVZA to hold its first ever senior beach volleyball event

WEVZA beach volleyball made its debut in July with the 2014 WEVZA U19 Championship in the Netherlands

Madrid, Spain, August 7, 2014 - The Western European Volleyball Zonal Association (WEVZA) will organise its first senior zonal beach volleyball tournament from August 21-23 in Sicily, Italy.

It will be a men-only competition and a great opportunity for the players to earn points towards their FIVB/CEV ranking, as well as a share of the €500 prize money. The tournament will be organised by the Italian national federation at Lido Panta Rei in the city of Capaci, Palermo province. There will be a qualification tournament for eight teams, granting two places in the 12-team main draw. The main draw will consist of pool play followed by single elimination matches.

The recently-formed zonal association organised its debut beach volleyball competition in July, when the 2014 WEVZA U19 Championship for both men and women took place in The Hague in the Netherlands. WEVZA's 2014 beach volleyball calendar also features the first ever U21 Championship for both men and women to be held in Cavaleiros, Portugal, from August 22-24.
