Three cities for The Hague Transavia Grand Slam
The Hague Transavia Grand Slam will be used in preparation for next year's World Championships when it takes place from July 15 to 20|
The Hague, the Netherlands, June 23, 2014 - The Hague Transavia Grand Slam will now be played in three cities instead of four after the proposed location in Rotterdam, in front of the new Rotterdam Central Station, has appeared not to be suitable for hosting the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships in 2015.
Therefore, the orgnaisers have decided not to use the location at this year's The Hague Transavia Grand Slam, which will be used in preparation for next year's World Championships when it takes place from July 15 to 20. The Hague Transavia Grand Slam will be played in The Hague, Amsterdam and Apeldoorn.
The city of Rotterdam and the organisation of the FIVB Grand Slam in the Netherlands have encountered too many restrictions in organizing a large scale sporting event at the Central Station in Rotterdam. As it is not possible to find an alternative location in Rotterdam on a short notice, it has been decided to organise all matches in the other three cities.
For the 2015 World Championships the tournament format with four host cities will not change. The stadium in the city centre of The Hague will act as the main stadium. All semifinals and finals will be played there. Other stadiums will be located at the Dam Square in Amsterdam and the Market Square in Apeldoorn. The search for a suitable location for a stadium in Rotterdam is currently underway.
