Stefanie Schwaiger to continue career with new partner

Following the retirement of her sister Doris, 2013 European champion Stefanie Schwaiger has announced she will continue her career in Beach Volleyball

Vienna, Austria, June 18, 2014 - Last year’s Beach Volleyball European champion Stefanie Schwaiger will not follow in the footsteps of her sister Doris who shocked thousands of fans last May 30 by announcing her retirement from competitive sport.

Stefanie took a short break to think more thoroughly about her future and finally came up with the decision of continuing her beach volleyball career with another partner.  Stefanie's partner has not been disclosed yet.

Together with her coaches Martin Laciga and Kersten Holthausen, Stefanie is currently scouting a few potential partners. Some had spontaneously submitted their candidature, whereas others were directly contacted by the 2013 European champion. She hopes to return very soon to the World Tour; the ultimate goal remains participation in the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

“The Austrian Volleyball Federation was very much hoping that Stefanie would continue,” President Peter Kleinmann says. “We are of course very happy with this news and with her decision.”
