Down to colourful final fours at the FIVB U23 World Championships

Myslowice, Poland, June 14, 2014 - Eight teams from eight different nations reached the semifinals of the double gender FIVB Beach Volleyball U23 World Championships on Saturday.

 

Brazil’s Alliso/Guto Carvalhaes will play Poland’s Kosiak/Rudol and the German Poniewaz-twins face Norway’s Tvinde/Mol in the men’s competition. In the women’s semifinals USA’s Dykstra/Pardon meet Finnish Lahti/Parkkinen and last year’s bronze medallists Humana-Paredes/Pischke from Canada take on Australia’s Laird/Artacho.

 

USA’s Dykstra/Pardon knock out two top teams to move into U23 semifinals

 

USA’s Lara Dykstra and Jace Pardon knocked out two medal contenders at the FIVB Beach Volleyball U23 World Championships on Saturday to move into the semifinals for the first time.

The Americans defeated last year’s silver medallist Eduarda Lisboa Santos and her new partner Carolina Horta Maxima in three sets (13-21, 21-18, 15-10) in the morning and had another great comeback in the quarterfinals against the U21 bronze medallists Lena Plesiutschnig and Katharina Schützenhöfer (18-21, 21-15, 15-9). German Poniewaz-twins dart into U23 final four

 

Germany’s Bennet and David Poniewaz reached the final four of the FIVB Beach Volleyball U23 World Championships on Saturday, celebrating and cherishing every point they scored.

The 20-year old twins defeated Russia’s Andrey Bolgov and Viacheslav Kirienko (15-21, 21-11, 15-13) in the second round and Brazil’s Saymon Barbosa Santos and Marcus Carvalhaes in the quarterfinals (21-18, 23-21). Read more

 

The final day of the U23 World Championships will start with the women’s semifinals at 10.00, followed by the men’s at 11.00. The bronze medal matches are scheduled for 12.00 and 13.00 and the finals will be played at 15.00 and 16.00. Before the gold medal matches VIP’s and sponsors will demonstrate their beach volleyball skills on centre court.

 

The U23 World Championships in Myslowice are the first of four age-group events this year. In July Mexico stages the inaugural U17 (15-20), followed by the U21 in Cyprus (23-27). Portugal stages the final event on the age-group calendar, the U19, from July 29-August 3.
