Antigua Guatemala, Guatemala, May 11, 2014 – USA’s Tealle Hunkus and Kimberly McGiven-Dicello, and Cuba’s Sergio Gonzalez and Nivaldo Díaz ruled their respective opponents to claim their second title of the season at the NORCECA Beach Volleyball Circuit on Sunday.

In the women’s side, Hunkus/McGiven-Dicello trumped compatriots Tracy Weamer and Kendra Vanzweiten in the gold medal match in straight sets (21-15, 26-24). The duo Hunkus/McGiven-Dicello were on a roll after winning the opener of the season at Cayman Islands and the bronze medal at the second stage of the continental tour in Guatemala City.

Cubans Lianma Flores and Leila Martinez drained the efforts of Costa Ricans Karen Cope and Natalia Alfaro in the tiebreaker (16-21, 21-13, 15-11) for third place.

Earlier in the semifinals, Hunkus/McGiven-Dicello prevailed over Flores/Martinez in a tough three-setter (26-24, 18-21, 15-10), while Weamer/Vanzweiten had a difficult task to close the match at 2-1 (21-13, 22-24, 19-17) against Cope/Alfaro.

In the men’s division, Cuba’s Sergio Gonzalez and Nivaldo Diaz won their second title with an easy 2-0 (21-15, 21-13) victory over Puerto Rico’s Roberto Rodriguez and Erick Haddock.

Gonzalez/Diaz won in straight sets (21-15, 21-15) over Canadian team of Cameron Wheelan and Michael Plantinga while the Puerto Rican tandem Rodriguez/Haddock defeated the other Canadian team of Simon Fecteau-Botin and James Battiston in straight sets (21-16, 21-15) in the men’s semifinals.

In the Canadian battle for bronze, Wheelan/Plantinga crushed Fecteau-Botin/Battiston 2-0 (21-17, 21-14).
