Serbian beach volleyball duo to celebrate FIVB Grand Slam debut in Shanghai

Antonic/Galesev have a spot in the Main Draw of the FIVB Grand Slam in Shanghai while in Fuzhou they will be trying to seize one of the eight tickets up for grabs for the Main Draw of the FIVB season opener

Belgrade, Serbia, April 15, 2014 – Sinisa Antonic and Marko Galesev will write history for their country later this month as Serbia’s first beach volleyball duo to compete at an FIVB Grand Slam tournament.

The participation of the two-time national champions in the FIVB Shanghai Grand Slam scheduled for April 29 to May 3 was announced at a press conference held at the premises of the Volleyball Federation of Serbia.

The winners of the 2012 and 2013 editions of the VIP Beach Masters – Serbia’s Beach Volleyball Championship are set to travel to China to play the qualification round of the Fuzhou Open first before they continue their campaign at the FIVB Grand Slam in Shanghai.

“I want to thank the Volleyball Federation of Serbia for their immense support,” Galesev said while addressing the media.

“This is instrumental in our development as a team. I also want to thank our sponsors for making this dream come true. We finished the 2013 season in a very good shape and that was a good way to start our preparations for 2014. We have many tournaments ahead and we will be doing our best to represent our country as best as we can, especially at the FIVB Grand Slam in Shanghai where a Serbian pair will be taking on the world’s best Beach Volleyball teams for the first time in history.”

“We have talked a lot about this experience. We are sure we will get to play four matches in Shanghai,” added Sinisa Antonic. “And it will be a great experience for us. Of course we will try to win as many matches as possible and I think that two victories would be a terrific start into the season. We started our preparations very early this year, went to Berlin and could practice with some German teams there. This was a valuable experience for us. So we can’t wait for the competition to start and I am sure it will be an unforgettable experience.”

The press conference was attended also by Mr. Aleksandar Boricic, President of the Volleyball Federation of Serbia (VFS) and CEV Senior Vice President, as well as by VFS Vice President and former international star Vladimir Grbic, by VFS Marketing Director Zoran Avramovic and by the head coaches of Serbia’s Beach Volleyball national team, Bojan Dimitrijevic and Marko Stojanovic.
