Bangkok, Thailand, April 7, 2014 - Hot competition and the south Thailand's searing heat awaits beach volleyball players from 18 countries at two Asian Tour events in April.

A total of 55 teams including 33 men's sides have confirmed their participation in the fifth Khanom-Chang Asian  Beach Volleyball Tour, which is due to be held between April 9 to 11 at Nadan Beach, Khanom in Nakhon Si Thammarat, a province located 780km south of the capital city Bangkok.

The Nakhon Si Thammarat meet will be followed by the 15th Samila-Chang Asian Beach Volleyball Tour in Songkhla, around 246km away from the first competition venue. The second Tour will take place at Samila Beach from April 14 to 16. Ahead of serious competition in Songkhla, all participating players will be invited to join in the Thai New Year festivities on April 13.

Participating nations in both Tours comprise hosts Thailand (three teams in each gender), Japan (two women's and two men's teams), China (2-2), Indonesia (2-2), Sri Lanka (2-2), Vanuatu (1-0), New Zealand (2-2), Hong Kong (2-2), Kazakhstan (2-2), Vietnam (2-2), Qatar (0-2), Iran (0-2), Singapore (1-1), India (1-2), Oman (0-2), Brunei (0-2), the Philippines (0-1) and Malaysia (0-2).

Somporn Chaibangyang (President of the Thailand Volleyball Association) and Somchai Sutthikulpanich (Vice President of Thai Beverage Marketing) led a press conference at the Alexander Hotel in Bangkok, which included beach volleyball players from the host country as well as a large number of journalists.

In his opening speech, Somporn said, “We (TVA) aim high to make these two Asian Beach Volleyball Tours stepping stones for both national and young beach spikers of Thailand to sharpen their skill against strong teams across the continent. I’m convinced that by taking part in several overseas competitions, our players will obtain experience and exposure for future use. After that, these experienced players will become major forces to be reckoned with in major overseas tournaments in the near future.”

Somchai added, “On behalf of Chang and Thai Beverage Marketing, the main sponsor of both Asian Tours in Nakhon Si Thammarat and Songkhla, I believe that Thai beach volleyball players will develop their full potential and make progressive steps in world competitions.”
