He believes that his
father has had the greatest influence on his sporting
career and in the sporting world, he most admires
Michael Jordan.
In addition to the
heavy training, traveling and tournament regime of the
World Tour, Vegard goes into his seventh season with
an additional responsibility; he serves as FIVB
Player's Representative, providing a vital link
between the international federation and his fellow
competitors.
Now 31, he has his
eye on two more targets - the 2003 World Championship
on the fabulous Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro,
Brazil and the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens.
"The Olympics
gives you a lot of opportunities," Vegard says,
admitting that he still has his eye on an Olympic
medal. He also has one eye on his next career,
planning to be an independent businessman. With his
insider knowledge, and his love of the sport, it's
easy to imagine that he will stay close to it long
after he has shaken the last of the sand out of his
shaggy blond hair.
