TEAM PROFILE

Ricardo and Emanuel

Brazil’s Ricardo Alex Costa Santos and Emanuel Rego teamed up to form a dream combination in 2003, claiming the FIVB-SWATCH World Tour and World Championship title, so they begin 2004 as one of the favourites for 2004 Swatch-FIVB World Tour and Olympic Games honours.

Although they played two tournaments as a pair in 2002, the 2003 FIVB-SWATCH World Tour signaled their first full season together but despite the relatively young age of the amalgamation, collectively Ricardo and Emanuel have over 60 FIVB titles to their name and it’s that experience at winning that has helped this team to become one of the strongest combination in the sport.

The excellent blend of Ricardo’s net domination with Emanuel’s improved back court game saw the duo claim five podium finishes in 2003 as they developed an understanding which is destined to reap them further titles.

"We're a young team in terms of the time we've been together and I think we can definitely get better before this year's Olympics in Athens," Emanuel said. "I'm starting to read Ricardo’s blocking much better and am getting out of his shades. He's a blocking machine - I remember when I used to play against him how difficult it was.”

"I feel I can focus more on getting high at the net to block because I'm confident in my partner's back-court defence," said Ricardo.
