Despite having only teamed up in 2001 Kerri Walsh and Misty May have developed into one of the most potent pairs on the Swatch-FIVB World Tour, claiming 11 World Tour titles from only 28 starts over two years.

After winning the World Tour teams title in 2002, the two Americans finished second behind Brazil’s Ana Paula Connelly and Sandra Tavares Pires Nascimento in the Swatch-FIVB World Tour rankings in 2003 but will be one of the favourites for the title and Olympic honours this year.

While May had started playing on the World Tour in 2000 with Holly McPeak, Walsh was completing the last of two seasons as an outside hitter for the United States National Volleyball team, including a visit to the Sydney Olympics, helping them win fourth place.

May also started in Volleyball, leading her State team to victory over Walsh’s side in 1999, but while both come from a strong Volleyball ground it is Beach where they have really made their mark, with Walsh’s strong game at the net giving May plenty of time to control the back court.
