TEAM PROFILE

Marcio Araujo and Benjamin Insfran

Marcio Araujo and Benjamin Insfran are capable of some exceptional results on the Swatch–FIVB World Tour as was witnessed in 2003. Three tournament wins at Gstaad, Klagenfurt and Mallorca and many mind boggling Beach Volleyball displays saw the team finishing in second spot on the overall Swatch–FIVB World Tour team rankings. But those close to these magnificent men will tell you that there is one clear goal in their minds for 2004, to be the best.

Having developed a thorough understanding of each other’s game over their four seasons together as a team, Marcio Araujo and Benjamin often dazzle their opponents with skill and trickery that has to be seen to be believed. They're combination on court is uncanny and they can often get through a match just on the back of the fanatical support from the fans.

"The big turning point for us was when we first won a World Tour tournament in Vitória (Brazil - 2000),” Marcio Araujo commented. “We came from the qualifying rounds and surprised a lot of people. That was the moment that Benjamin and I started to believe that we could really face any team in the world. That was the decisive point and a big step for us. After that, we played six finals in that year."

Márcio, who started his career in Volleyball, switched to Beach Volleyball in the early 90's through the help of his coach Ronald and his father Luiz. Benjamin began playing the sport professionally in 1997 and failed to make a significant impact until he developed his partnership with Marcio a couple of years later.
