to help raise environment awareness
The Ecoflag symbolizes the commitment to the environment of sports-lovers and everyone who knows the importance and irreplaceable nature of the water, air and greenery that surrounds us.
The Ecoflag programme is linked to the United Nations
environment programme (UNEP).
World Environment Day
At the opening SWATCH-FIVB World Tour event in Rhodes, Environment Day on June 5 was marked with a press conference featuring Mr Okada, the Mayor of Rhodes Mr George Giannopoulos, Mr Thanassis Beligratis the President of the Hellenic Volleyball Federation, Mr Angelo Squeo the FIVB Beach Volleyball Coordinator and other distinguished guests and players including the Laciga brothers where the links between the environment and Beach Volleyball were unveiled.

June 10, 2003 - The Ecoflag "Keep the Beach clean - Think Environment" message reached the sandy shores of Senegal last week with the launch of a two-year Sport and Environment
Eco project. SAPAD (Senegal Network structure for Development and Growth), in partnership with Centre Sportif Fayda (a Beach Volleyball training organization), launched the
Eco campaign to coincide with World Environment Day on June 5.

FIVB launches SWATCH-FIVB World Tour-New partners, new era for Beach Volleyball
Berlin, Germany, June 2, 2003 - The International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) launched the SWATCH-FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour with aplomb on Monday, together with the Mayor of Berlin, new title sponsors SWATCH, the German Volleyball Federation and organisers of the Berlin Beach Volleyball Grand Slam to celebrate a new era in this booming sport. The FIVB also announced the awarding of the 2007 World Championship.

May 29, 2003 - Two Japanese Beach Volleyball players are leading the way in the Ecoflag programme, which is sweeping the world with it's message to "Keep the beach clean - think environment," with a "Garbage Busters" promotion throughout Japan.

Hop, Step and Jump to a better environment
GSA's, approach to the environmental problem is unique and practical:
First (Hop) is promoting awareness through the
"We can enjoy volleyball because of clean air and water, thus the environment. Let's
make sure that we keep the environment clean for future generations."
Second (Step) is promoting the spontaneous actions on the environment.
The GSA has introduced advanced initiatives on sports and environmental issues, such as asking sport fans to take spontaneous actions on the environment. They make this introduction through the Global Forum for Sports and Environment (G-ForSE2003), which will be attended by the FIVB president Dr. Rubén Acosta on November 14th in Tokyo, Japan.
Third (Jump) is spreading this awareness and actions to the 1 billion sport
around the world.
The One Billion Awareness project was
developed in line with GSA's objectives of uniting a billion sports enthusiasts worldwide in the creation of a new kind of society that does not mass produce, mass consume and mass dispose of the earth's precious resources.
