Fontana/Youngs defeat Olympic gold medallists

Cagliari, Italy, 17 June - Americans Fontana/Youngs reversed the fortunes of last weeks semifinal by defeating Olympic gold medallists Pottharst/Cook (AUS) 2-1 (10-21, 21-19,15-11) in a packed stadium on sunny Poetto Beach, Cagliari. 

Adriana Behar-Shelda snatched the second place from compatriots Sandra Pires-Minello 2-0 (22-20, 21-12).

The most thrilling match of the tournament offered to a packed stadium of fervent home supporters was when Italy’s top team battled against 13th World ranked USA Masakayan-DeNecochea in the 7th place match where Brushini-Solazzi gave in after 1hour and 10 minute of excellent performance in 3 sets (27-25, 25-27, 17-15).
