Vaduz to host FIVB Men's, Women's Satellite events in August

August 6-10, 2008

The Liechtenstein city of Vaduz will host an FIVB Beach Volleyball Satellite event for the fourth-straight year.

The Women's event is scheduled for August 6-9 and the Men's event for August 7-10. Total Prize Money of US$20,000 will be equally divided between the two competitions, with 16 teams in each bracket entering the main draw.

Three Swiss teams have captured the first three Men's gold medals while the Women's competition has featured three different winners from Bulgaria, Germany and Brazil.

Katrin Holtwick and Ilka Semmler, winners of the Women's event in 2006, captured the 2007 European Tour season title.

In 2007 in the Women's competition, Brazil's Maria Antonelli and Leao Vanilda claimed gold, with Claudia Lehmann and Julia Sude of Germany taking silver and Frederike Fischer and Jama Kohler, also of Germany, winning bronze.

In the Men's competition in 2007, Switzerland's Patrick Heuscher and Sascha Heyer won gold, Germany's Tilo Backhaus and Tom Gotz took silver and Josh Binstock and Jason Kruger of Canada claimed bronze.

Heuscher also won the title in 2006 with Stefan Kobel.

Vaduz is the capital of the principality of Liechtenstein and located along the Rhine. It has a lively tourist industry, despite being one of the very few capital cities in the world without an airport or railway station.  The closest railway station is that of Sargans, a Swiss town roughly 7 km from Vaduz's centre.
