“Hong Kong Beach Festival”
The Hong Kong Beach Festival will be held at Kowloon Park Piazza from 10-12 November 2006. The park was formerly a site of Whitfield Camp barracks for British force and the Piazza is a 3000 square meter facility that is used for staging events.
The tournament carries a USD 30,000 prize fund and is open to international teams subject to a maximum quota of two teams per country. A total of 16 teams will participate in the competition (including two Chinese teams), which will be played in a pool play and double elimination format.
The
last international FIVB tournament hosted by Hong Kong was the Women's
FIVB $180,000 Hong Kong Open from August 22-26, 2001, which was won by
Brazil’s Shelda Bede and Adriana Behar. The exhibition event will give
up and coming women’s teams a taste of international competition to spur
them on to emulate both this highly successful Brazilian pairing and the
home-grown talents of China’s Tian Jia and Wang Jie.
