| French Teams Capture Corsica Gold & Silver |

Porticco, France, August 22, 2004 - The teams of Kevin Ces/Julien Dugrip and Adrian Caravano/Denis Damez did not disappoint the host country crowd here Sunday by playing for the gold medal after both French teams had won their first four matches in the US$10,000 Corsica Satellite.
Top-seeded Ces and Dugrip captured the 18-team FIVB Satellite Beach Volleyball event by defeating the 14th-seeded Caravano and Damez 21-12 and 21-14 in the finals. Ces and Dugrip shared $2,000 for the win while silver medal team split $1,500.
Ces and Dugrip advanced to the finals with a 21-18 and 21-14 win over fourth-seeded Bernhard Strauss and Matthias Mellitzer of Austria. Damez and Caravano, who upset the third-, sixth- and second-seeded teams in the winner's bracket, scored a 21-16 and 21-15 win over Fabio Galli and Andrea Raffaelli of Italy in the semi-finals.
In the bronze medal match, Galli and Raffaelli scored a 21-16 and 21-16 over Strauss and Mellitzer, who advanced to the "final four" with a 21-23, 21-18 and 15-9 win over second-seeded Guilherm Deulofeu and Gregoire Capitaine of France. |
