Action heats up at San Marino Satellite
Cattolica, Italy, July 23, 2004 - The main draw tournament of the FIVB Satellite tournament of San Marino starts on Friday on the beautiful hot sands of Cattolica, this crowded Italian summer vacation spot on the Adriatic sea.

Thursday saw some exciting matches played in the country quota play offs for the Italian teams, with the young brothers Thomas and Fabio Casali booking their spot in the main draw by defeating their compatriots Marco Malavolta and Diego Nota (18-21, 21-19, 15-13), who had played two three-set matches earlier.

Malavolta and Nota became lucky losers this time, being rewarded for their effort courtesy of a late withdraw from a main draw team.

Friday will see Malavolta and Nota play Brazilian favorites Pedro Brazao and MarcelloDuarte, while Casalis will have their first main draw match against the "Sammarinese" twin brothers Francesco and Alfredo Tabarini.

"There is a lot of expectation here in Cattolica regarding the participation of teams from San Marino," said San Marino Volleyball Federation Beach Coordinator Fulvio Taffoni. "As it is the first time that so many national teams (four in total) have taken part in a main draw tournament of an international event."

Matches on Friday start at 8:30 a.m. with 26 matches. Semi finals and finals will be played on Saturday.
