World Tour returns to Ostrava

Ostrava, Czech Republic, November 1, 2018 - When the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour returns to Ostrava at the end of May for the second edition of an international event at the Lower Vitkovice industrial heritage site, the Czech Republic will be looking to duplicate final four finishes in both the men's and women's competition after posting semifinal appearances at the inaugural tournament in 2018.

Being staged from May 29 through June 2 at the meeting point of four rivers in the northeastern part of the Czech Republic, the Ostrava Open will attract an elite field due to the points awarded for qualifying for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

The Czech event is also one of the last international beach volleyball tournaments in Europe prior to the 2019 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships to be held from June 28 through July 7 in Hamburg, Germany. Events in Baden, Austria and Warsaw, Poland follow the Ostrava stop to complete the pre-World Championship FIVB schedule in Europe.

In the all-German bronze medal match, Karla Borger/Margareta Kozuch bested Victoria Bieneck/Isabel Schneider 2-0 (21-19, 21-18) in 41 minutes.
