Turkey prepares to start Mediterranean beach volleyball show

Antalya, Turkey, October 15, 2015 – The FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour Antalya Open begins in Turkey next week with the country putting the final touches ahead of the one of top sporting events of the year in the country.

Turkish Volleyball Federation corporate communication and marketing director Sezgin Eren said he is looking forward to welcoming all teams at a press conference on Monday.

“The Turkish Volleyball Federation will organise one of the world’s finest beach volleyball tournaments where the games will be played on a spectacular beach,” he said. “56 women’s and 56 men’s team will participate in this competition which will offer a thrilling experience to the audience and the spectators.”

“It is extremely important for our national teams participating in this tournament as it will help them to gain precious points to support their aim to Rio,” added beach volleyball director Oğuz Değirmenci. He also revealed that the competition will be broadcasted live on several international channels.

Turkey coach Carlos Galleti was also on hand, and said the location the event will unfold is second to none.

“Antalya is one of the best locations to play beach volleyball, so it’s important to host such events to grow beach volleyball. We aim to achieve good results in this tournament so it will provide an advantage to join the Olympics.”

And the players are equally excited to face some of the world’s best players.

“We aim to go to Rio and this tournament will be a great opportunity for us,” Volkan Göğtepe said.

The Antalya Open will take place at Antalya Konyaaltı Beach Park and TVF Akdeniz University courts from October 20-25.
