Speaking at the mid-day media session prior to the opening session of the international Beach Volleyball event were FIVB technical supervisor Liu Chang and the tournament director Ilya Volodarsky along with Russian coaches Georgiy Ryazhnov (women) and Vyacheslav Nirka (men), and host country players Alexandra Moiseeva and Konstantin Semenov.

"On behalf of the FIVB, I am happy to welcome all of you in Moscow,” said Chang.  â€œIt’s not the first time your city has hosted events of such a high level.  The organizing team has extensive experience staging tournaments like this, so I do not doubt that the Moscow Grand Slam will be held at the highest level."

Volodarsky, who has organized the Moscow Grand Slam since 2008, said his team has “prepared a lot of surprises for the fans.  Drawing of tickets to Sochi, contests, entertainment zones and, as in any Beach Volleyball competition, a lot of music and huge emotions.  With confidence I can say that in 2016 we will host one of the best stops on FIVB World Tour."

Russian women’s coach Ryazhnov spoke about the goals and objectives of his players for the tournament in Moscow.  â€œOur leading duo (Ekaterina Birlova/Evgenia Ukolova) still have two chances to qualify for the Olympics through the World Tour.  While these opportunities exist, we will fight to make good things happen, we must show a good result, at least fifth place this week and at the next FIVB event in Hamburg.”

Semenov, who captured the gold medal at the 2014 Moscow Grand Slam with Viacheslav Krasilnikov, said “it's always great to play at home. Thanks to the organizers for such a great opportunity.  We will try to repeat our success of two years ago when we took the gold medal in Moscow.  We have a good chance to qualify for Olympics in Rio directly through the FIVB World Tour, so will try to solidify our position in Moscow."
