Salagh looks forward to Kish Island Open
Agh Mohammad Salagh and Parviz Farrokhi are looking forward to the Kish Island Open
Tehran, Iran, February 8, 2016 - The 2015/16 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour starts up again at the Kish Island Open in Iran next week with Iranian team Agh Mohammad Salagh and partner Parviz Farrokhi looking forward to the first World Tour event to take place in their country. "I just wish Iranian players display the progress they have made and also learn from the best players in the world," said Salagh.
"Right now, Iran teams are in a preparatory camp for the Kish Island World Tour event. These days, the Iran Federation and the whole volleyball family are thinking of this tournament. It is a good chance here to thank the Iran Volleyball Federation and also the Iranian Beach Organisation for bringing this tournament home. As a player, I had not hoped Iran would host the event, particularly in an Olympic year. Fortunately, Iran will host the World Tour. This can be a good step to develop beach volleyball in Iran," he added.
The Iranian has played beach volleyball for 15 years, participating in numerous Asian competitions with partner Parviz Farrokhi. When asked about his hopes for the season ahead, he comments: "Sport cannot be predictable. Most of the best teams in the world have registered for this tournament. So they are going to have good performances. Since we are close to the Olympic Games, I predict the participating teams will enter the competition at full capacity to get the maximum score to take to the Olympics. I just wish the Iranian players display the progress they have made and also learn from the best players in the world. All I wish is to prove ourselves to the world."
Reflecting on the evolution of beach volleyball in Iran, Salagh added: “I have been in many tournaments. However, none of them were as organised and as well-planned as this one now. Most of our titles were achieved with little training. These days, our beach volleyball team are working so hard. Last year, a beach league was held for the first time and this year we are hosting a Beach World Tour event. Planning is getting more coherent. We now have a Brazilian coach- this is also a positive point happening right now. Our food is also much better. We are reaching the world standards. Facilities are all good. We were not provided with these conditions in the past, but now we have better ones. We were Asian Champions, yet we could not go to the world tournaments. We had many problems of the kind. Our teams are now taking part in the World Tour and our Beach Organisation is helping us to improve."
Speaking about their trainings under the supervision of their new Brazilian coach Luciano Barbosa, Salagh explained: “Iranian players are bearing the pressures of training. They are progressing more rapidly as the trainings are very up to date. They are learning much better. The mentality is also becoming more professional. This is why we are not having the same challenges as in the past, because we are thinking professionally; and we have specific targets."
Salagh is pleased to be playing with Parviz Farrokhi. “He is the king of beach volleyball in Iran and Asia. He is 47 years old and no one can rival him at this age. He is really exceptional,†he concluded.
