Fort Lauderdale, Fla., October 2, 2015 - With teams from Brazil and Germany winning matches here Friday morning to capture pool titles, pairs from Brazil, Canada, The Netherlands and the United States will play afternoon quarter-final contests to determine the pairings for Saturday’s semi-finals at the US$500,000 SWATCH FIVB World Tour Finals.

Second-seeded Talita Antunes/Larissa Franca of Brazil (Pool B) and Laura Ludwig/Kira Walkenhorst of Germany (Pool A) defeated teams from Canada and Brazil, respectively, to finish group play with 4-0 match marks to advance to the semi-finals.  The pool titles also guaranteed both teams a fourth-place finish in the competition and a $15,000 paycheck for the participating in the FIVB World Tour event.

Saturday’s semi-final winners will compete for the $100,000 first-place prize Sunday.  Talita and Larissa will play Saturday the winners of a match between top-seeded Lauren Fendrick/April Ross of the United States while Ludwig and Walkenhorst will be challenged by the victors from the match between fourth-seed Agatha Bednarczuk/Barbara Seixas of Brazil and sixth-seeded Madelein Meppelink/Marleen Van Iersel of The Netherlands.

Talita and Larissa captured Pool B by out-lasting Bansley and Pavan 2-1 (21-23, 21-17, 17-15) in 55 minutes.  Earlier in the competition, Talita and Larissa netted wins over Meppelink/Van Iersel along with pairs from Germany and the United States.  The Brazilians will be seeking their seventh gold medal on the FIVB World Tour this season and 11th overall since forming their partnership in July 2014.

After defeating Fendrick/Ross and tandems from Canada and Spain, Ludwig and Walkenhorst secured Pool A by defeating Agatha and Barbara 2-0 (21-16, 21-19) in 39 minutes.  The Germans, the 2015 European champions, will be vying for their second FIVB World Tour gold medal this season and third overall since forming their union in 2013.

Fendrick and Ross, who are playing in their first FIVB World Tour event together due to injuries to their regular partners, gained a spot in the quarter-finals opposite of Bansley and Pavan by eliminating eighth-seeded Elsa Baquerizo and Liliana Fernandez of Spain 2-1 (21-11, 19-21, 15-9) in 57 minutes.

Meppelink and Van Iersel also avoided elimination by ousting seventh-seeded Emily Day and Jen Kessy 2-1 (16-21, 22-20, 1507) in 58 minutes.  The Dutch will be playing their fifth match with Agatha and Barbara with the FIVB World Tour head-to-head series tied 2-2.  Agatha and Barbara are the reigning FIVB world champions after winning the title July 4 in The Hague, The Netherlands.

Both the Spaniards and Americans finished seventh in the competition to net $7,500 each.  The quarter-final losers will each share a $10,000 paycheck.  The SWATCH FIVB World Tour Finals concludes Sunday with the medal matches.
