Team: Dalhausser/Lucena

The pair of former Florida residents, Dalhausser and Lucena reunited as partner in late August to play in two FIVB World Tour events in the United States (Long Beach) and Poland (Olsztyn). As a new team, Dalhausser and Lucena placed second in Long Beach, fifth in Poland and second in Sochi with a 17-6 match mark. Dalhausser and Lucena had previously played in international events in 2005 in France (Paris) and Austria (Klagenfurt) where they had to qualify for the Main Draw. For five FIVB World Tour events, Dalhausser and Lucena have a 21-10 match mark. On the AVP tour, Dalhausser and Lucena have competed in 30 events with two championships, four title appearances, eight “final four” finishes and an 85-53 match record (61.6%). Overall, Dalhausser and Lucena have a 106-63 record (62.7%) for 35 events.

Lucena is a native of the Fort Lauderdale-area and is considered one of the FIVB World Tour’s top defenders. He is nicknamed “Nick the Quick”. He became a regular on the FIVB World Tour in 2009 and has competed in 74 international events since playing initially in 2005 with Dalhausser at international events in France and Austria. A fourth-place finisher at the 2015 FIVB World Championships in The Hague with Theo Brunner, Lucena has nine podium placements, 12 “final four” finishes and 26 quarter-final appearances to his credit. He has a 219-139 FIVB World Tour match mark (61.78). Lucena has played in six FIVB World Tour gold medal matches with Matt Fuerbringer (Klagenfurt 2010, Quebec 2011, Brasilia 2012), Ryan Doherty (Berlin 2014) and Dalhausser (Long Beach 2015, Sochi 2015).

Dalhausser won the Beijing 2008 Olympic and Gstaad 2007 FIVB world champion gold medal with Todd Rogers. He played in his first FIVB World Tour event at the end of the 2004 season in Rio de Janeiro before placing seventh the next season with Rogers at the world championships in Berlin. A three-time most outstanding player on the FIVB World Tour (2010, 2013, 2014), Dalhausser became a regular on the international circuit in 2006 with Rogers. He has competed in 85 FIVB World Tour events with 29 gold medals, 51 podium placements and 55 “final four” finishes with a 425-107 match mark (79.9%). His 29 gold medals ranks third all-time behind legendary Brazilians Emanuel Rego (78) and Ricardo Santos (56). The 23 international titles by the Dalhausser/Rogers team is second all-time behind Emanuel/Ricardo (34). Nicknamed “The Thin Beast”, Dalhausser has been named the FIVB World Tour’s best blocker (2006, 2007, 2008, 2010, 2012, 2014), best hitter (2007, 2008, 2009, 2010), best offensive player (2008, 2009, 2010, 2012), best server (2014), best setter (2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2014), most improved (2006) and top sportsperson (2008). Born in Switzerland, Dalhausser resided in central Florida before moving to southern California to pursue his Beach Volleyball career.
