Lausanne, Switzerland, August 12, 2015 - A day after being announced as a Main Draw participant in next week’s US$800,000 ASICS World Series of Beach Volleyball in the United States, Italy’s “up-and-coming” team of Adrian Carambula and Alex Ranghieri had to withdraw from the FIVB World Tour stop in southern California due to injury.

With a back injury forcing Carambula to withdraw from the third annual event to be played on the TrueCar Court at Alamitos Beach in Long Beach, the Turkish pair of Murat Giginoglu/Volkan Gogtepe were moved from the Qualification Tournament entry list to the Main Draw.

The first men’s or women’s team from Turkey to medal at a FIVB World Tour event since the start of Beach Volleyball competition in 1987, Giginoglu and Gogtepe are ranked 22nd internationally this season.  The Turks started the 2015 campaign by winning the bronze medal at May’s Lucerne Open in Switzerland.

In their last FIVB World Tour appearance three weeks ago in Japan, Giginoglu and Gogtepe placed fifth in the Yokohama Grand Slam with an “impressive” elimination bracket win over Brazilians Evandro Goncalves and Pedro Solberg (2-0,  21-17, 21-17), the No. 2-ranked tandem on the international circuit.  The ASICS World Series of Beach Volleyball event will be the Turks’ 11th FIVB tournament as the pair has compiled a 27-22 match record.

Carambula, who is a leading candidate for the FIVB World Tour’s rookie-of-the-year, and Ranghieri have played in only five of 10 events this season to rank 27th internationally  The pair has two “final four” finishes this season with a third in Porec Major in Croatia and a fourth at the Gstaad Major in Switzerland.  In Yokohama, the pair placed 25th despite upsetting Americans Tri Bourne and John Hyden in pool play.

With the withdrawal of the Italians along with a Czech Republic men’s team from the qualifier, a total of 107 teams (58 men, 49 women) from 32 countries are still entered in the 10th men's and 11th women's event on the 2015 FIVB World Tour calendar.

The qualification tournaments for the ASICS World Series of Beach Volleyball will be played Tuesday followed by the opening Main Draw rounds Wednesday.  The 32-team Main Draws for both genders will feature pool play with the top three group finishers advancing to the elimination rounds.

Pool winners are guaranteed a first-round “bye” in the knockout rounds when the 24-team elimination bracket begins August 21.  The medal matches will be played August 23 with the winning teams sharing the $57,000 first-place prizes.  Here are the Main Draw entries for the ASICS World Series of Beach Volleyball (current FIVB World Tour ranking):
