Seventh heaven for Moscow as FIVB Beach Volleyball
SWATCH World Tour Returns |
|
The FIVB Beach Volleyball Swatch World Tour
returns to Moscow for the fourth year in a row from July 7-12 as it
hosts the third Grand Slam event of 2012. The competition will be
held at Victory Park where Brazil's Alison Cerutti and Emanuel Rego
celebrated a gold medal win over Swiss duo Patrick Heuscher and
Jefferson Bellaguard last year, with USA's Todd Rogers and Phil
Dalhausser claiming bronze. The 2012 event is the seventh World Tour event in Moscow as the initial events were men’s-only stops in
1998 and 1999. The international beach volleyball circuit returned to the
Russian capital in 2008 when Dalhausser and Rogers and Chen Xue and Xi Zhang of
China captured the men’s and women’s gold medals,
respectively before Juliana Felisberta Da Silva and Larissa França of Brazil
and Julius Brink and Jonas Reckermann of Germany picked up the 2009
crowns. However 2010 was strictly a Chinese year as Penggen Wu and
Linyin Xu beat
Rogers and Dalhausser in the men's final as Brink and Reckermann
salvaged bronze while Xue and Zhang saw off USA's Jen Kessy and
April Ross to the women's title as Larissa and Juliana of Brazil
sealed bronze. Moscow is the capital city of Russia and also the
most populous in the Eurasia country. The city is the political
economical, educational and cultural center of the country and has a
population of just over 10 million people. Pictured below to the left
