Saquarema, Brazil, July 4, 2011 - Brazil's young hopefuls for the FIVB Beach Volleyball Swatch Junior World Championships gathered on Monday to embark on the training and selection process for the event in Halifax, Canada which begins in just over eight weeks' time.
The group of prospective candidates to fill the four available slots – one pair in the male event, the other in the female – will spend the next two months working at the Brazilian Volleyball Confederation's (CBV) training centre in Saquarema before a final decision is made on which players will travel to Canada.
The CBV announced the short list for the competition on 1 July and it comprises 10 players – six female and four male. The players called up for the women's event are Juliana Paula Simões, Rebecca Cavalcante Barbosa da Silva, Carolina Horta Máximo, Júlia Beatriz de Almeida Nogueira Schmidt, Mayara Kelly Rocha Carneiro and Thaís Rodrigues Ferreira.
For the men's event, the candidates are Vitor Araújo Gonçalves Felipe, Marcus Vinícius Albrecht Carvalhaes, Roberto Magliano de Moraes Filho and Allison Cittadin Francione. While Rodrigo Fontes Ribeiro is the coach in charge of the female hopefuls, Antônio Fernando Leão will oversee the men's team at the World Championships, which will take place between 31 August and 4 September.
