PRESS RELEASE
Legend Ahmann has eye on Rosenthal/Gibb for Prague honours

Jörg Ahmann also said he wouldn't be surprised to see another first-time tournament winner at the women's Myslowice Open, similar to the Netherland's Sanne Keizer and Marleen Van Iersel feat in Shanghai two weeks ago

Lausanne, Switzerland, May 16, 2011 – Olympic Bronze medal winner and former FIVB Beach Volleyball Swatch World Tour player Germany’s Jörg Ahmann has said that although Todd Rogers and Phil Dalhausser of the United States are the team to beat, victory is far from certain when the Prague Open begins in the Czech Republic on Tuesday.

Ahmann, who finished third at the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games, earmarked a number of teams who could topple the unbeaten US pair at the first men’s single-gender event of the 2011 season, most notably Rogers and Dalhausser’s compatriots Sean Rosenthal and Jacob Gibb as well as Spain’s Pablo Herrera and Adrian Gavira.

Ahmann, who also won two silver medals and two bronze medals on the World Tour, added that he would not be surprised if there was another first-time winner at the women’s Myslowice Open in Poland, which also begins on Tuesday. At the last event in Shanghai, Dutch duo Sanne Keizer and Marleen Van Iersel clinched their first Swatch World Tour gold medal, and he said a number of new, up-and-coming European teams could easily take top spot on the podium, citing fellow Germans Sara Goller and Laura Ludwig as possible victors.

The men’s Prague Open begins on Tuesday and will run until Saturday while the women’s Myslowice Open will also finish this weekend.
