Brasilia, Brazil, April 19, 2011 – FIVB Beach Volleyball Swatch World Tour 2010 champion USA’s Todd Rogers says he expects this year’s tour to be much tougher for him and partner Phil Dalhausser as they prepare to begin their season at the first event in Brasilia, Brazil on Wednesday.
The 2011 international season officially began on Sunday and will run until April 23 in the Brazilian capital, but Rogers is already keeping his feet on the ground ahead of the tour.
“We don’t expect to win nine [events] out of 12 again,†Rogers told Presidio Sports website on Monday. “Last year was a great season. I think the tour will be a lot tougher.â€
The 37-year old believes there will be challenges on every stage of the tour, and points out that a number of mens duos are already looking strong.
“[Jonas] Brink and [Julius] Reckermann from Germany should be healthy and whole,†he added. “They missed half the season last year. Ricardo and Marcio have another year under their belt playing together as do Allison and Emanuel from Brazil. Plus, all the other American teams I expect will be primed and ready as well. Should be fun. I think a good season on the FIVB for any team is winning four maybe five events. Nine was unexpected, but we will try to match it. Hopefully, we can regain our World Championship title.â€
