Considered by many as the premier
international Beach Volleyball event, the capital of the federal
state of Carinthia in Austria hosts the final Grand Slam
of the 2011 FIVB Beach Volleyball Swatch World Tour calendar from
August 1-7.
2011 will be an unprecedented 15th-straight year that
the Lake Wörthersee site has hosted the international circuit as
teams from Brazil and United States captured women’s and men’s gold
medals, respectively, in finals featuring the two Beach Volleyball
powers. Brazilians Juliana Felisberta Silva and Larissa Franca
sealed the women's title on the
Lake Wörthersee centre court by defeating compatriots Vivian Cunha
and Taiana Lima in the final, the duo successfully defending the
title they won in 2009 as Germany's Sara Goller and Laura Ludwig won
bronze.
The men's final was also a one-country affair with Todd Rogers and
Phil Dalhausser squaring off against Matt Fuerbringer and Nick Lucena in
an all-American match. Despite a passionate effort Fuerbringer and
Lucena couldn't seal the win as Brazil's Alison Cerutti and Emanuel
Rego completed the podium by claiming bronze. Pictured to the left below
