American flavour spices up Hellas Open
Rhodes, Greece, May 23, 2004 - Holly McPeak and Elaine Youngs will clash with compatriots Kerri Walsh and Misty May in the 2004 Swatch - FIVB Hellas Open final in Rhodes on Sunday. For McPeak and Youngs a win against rivals Annett Davis and Jennifer Jordan seemed all the more sweeter due to the fact that both sides are locked in a fierce battle for the second American spot at the Olympic Games in Athens in three months time.

On a hot day in Rhodes the final scoreboard read 15-21, 21-19, 15-10 in favour of McPeak and Youngs and the action throughout the match had the supporters roaring their approval all the way. "We're so looking forward to playing against Walsh and May in the final," Holly McPeak said after the win. "It's been a long time since those two have been beaten and we think we are capable of beating them in the final."

In terms of the much sought after Olympic berth, McPeak stated, "We are desperate to go to the Olympic Games so this win was huge for us in terms of the qualification battle between ourselves and Jordan-Davis. Our biggest focus right now is on reaching the Olympics in Athens."

For team Jordan-Davis there is the consolation of a third place play-off with Adriana Behar and Shelda of Brazil who earlier went down to Walsh and May in the day's other semi-final.
