Singing in the rain - super Estonians reach semis
Budva, Serbia and Montenegro, May 29, 2004 - They just keep going, Kristjan Kais and Rivo Vesik pulled off yet another stunning victory at the 2004, Swatch - FIVB World Tour Open event in Budva on Saturday.

The heavens may have opened above the mountains of Montenegro but the heavy thunder showers didn't distract Kais and Vesik as they charged to a 2-1 (22-24, 23-21, 15-11) win over Swiss brothers Paul and Martin Laciga on centre court and into a semi-final match with Markus Dieckmann and Jonas Reckermann scheduled for Sunday.

"The weather was like in Estonia and I think that gave us an advantage," a rainsoaked but delighted Kais said after the game. "We are really used to these conditions with the cold and the rain and the wind. This tournament has been amazing for us, just amazing," he continued.
His playing partner, Rivo Vesik, stated the team's intention to go all the way, "Why should the run stop now?" he said. "We're going for the gold, it's as simple as that, I can't say anymore right now."

Both players received a rapturous reception as they made their way off court and they were visibly touched by the reaction. "They like us because we aren't ranked so high and we are from a small country," said Kais. "Even in the rain they were supporting us."

There is now a semi-final match against quality German opposition to come on Sunday and Kais feels there's nothing standing in the way of the duo's progression to the podium. "I haven't thought about tomorrow's semi-final yet but I think that if we play our own game we can achieve anything."

The other semi-final will feature the world's best team from Brazil, Ricardo and Emanuel and Switzerland's Patrick Heuscher and Stefan "Kobi" Kobel.
