Swatch - FIVB World Tour arrives in beautiful Budva
Budva, Serbia and Montenegro, May, 25, 2004 - Mythological Budva witnessed the arrival of the stars of the 2004 Swatch - FIVB World Tour on Tuesday as players and fans alike geared up for Wednesday's opening day of play in the men's Beach Volleyball Open event.

With all around discussing the recent shock defeats suffered by Brazilian giants Ricardo Alex Costa Santos and Emanuel Rego in China, many are anticipating more of the same excitement in this quaint resort town in Serbia and Montenegro which is hosting a Swatch - FIVB World Tour event for the first time.

The serenely audible combination of soft waves lapping the shore along with athletes practising queitly under the warm sun on the outside courts here in Budva is in stark contrast to the noise and atmosphere that will be generated once the first service whistle blows in the country qualifiers early on Wednesday.

Along with the $180,000 prize money on offer in the competition, also at stake for the players here are crucial qualifying points that will go towards qualification for the Olympic Games in Athens this August.

"It's a great honour that in this Olympic year of 2004, the Federation of the Volleyball Olympic champions has been entrusted with the organisation of an Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Beach Volleyball," Mr. Alexandar Boricic, the President of the Volleyball Federation of Serbia and Montenegro stated.

"This magnetising sport and its lifestyle attracts an exploding interest and we are proud to be part of the new era, of its expansion in all areas throughout the world and to be part of the electric energy that the new vision of our President, Dr. Acosta has brought to us all," Mr. Boricic continued.

Mr. Vlado Dapcevic, the Budva Tournament Director, mentioned, "We are thrilled that this Swatch - FIVB World Tour event will be held in Serbia and Montenegro. We are thankful to the FIVB and the Volleyball Federation of Serbia and Montenegro who came to a successful agreement resulting in Beach Volleyball coming to Budva. "

"We are honoured because we have so much experience in the sport of Volleyball but this is our first steps into the arena of International Beach Volleyball and this is such a big tournament in terms of being part of the Olympic qualification process. We expect the best players in the world will enjoy staying in Budva," Mr. Dapcevic added.

The Swatch - FIVB World Tour event in Budva will run from May 26-30.
