Event Regulations

COMPETITION FORMAT
The men and women 2003 FIVB World Championships presented by Swatch are based on a Main Draw of 48 teams, with no qualification tournament, a maximum of 6 host country teams, a maximum of 4 foreign teams, and 4 Wild Cards.
Furthermore and for each gender’s event, a Pool Play (12 groups of 4 teams) is followed by a Single Elimination of 32 teams. A special provision is made for the African teams in both events in order to preserve the universality principles implemented for the Olympic Games.
A drawing of lots will be conducted after the Pool Play in order to determine the seeding for the single elimination of the 32 teams
