Men's French Grand Slam 2001
Marseille, 17 - 22 July

Two in a row for Baracetti-Conde

Marseille 22 July - Marseille, host of the highly successful 1999 Beach Volleyball World Championships, was the venue for the sixth World Tour event of the year, Marseille’s eighth since 1994.

The Argentinean pairing of Baracetti-Conde continued with their outstanding form of Lignano, Italy to take their second consecutive World Tour win. Coming into the event seeded tenth, they disposed of Heyer-Egger M. (SUI) 2-0 (21-19, 21-18) in their first match, then followed up with straight-set wins over Roberto Lopes-Franco (BRA), Kobel-Heuscher (SUI), Laciga P.-Laciga M. (SUI) and Wong-Metzger (USA).

After an even match against Brazilians Emanuel/Tande, Baracetti and Conde made some crucial defensive plays at the end of both sets to win the match and their second final 2:0 (21-19, 21-19).

The French audience was on its feet during a one-and-a-half-hour marathon playoff between two American teams for the third place. Wong and Metzger finally taking the third set against their countrymen Blanton and Fonoimoana 2:1 (31-33, 21-13, 15-11).
