It is my great pleasure to welcome you to the ninth edition
in its current format – of the FIVB Beach Volleyball
World Championships. With the excitement of the 2011
Championships in Rome behind us, this year we take the
action to the picturesque shores of Lake Mazury in Stare
Jablonki, Poland.
Poland has an extensive history of hosting beach volleyball
events with Myslowice and Stare Jablonki having been
regular stops on the World Tour while Myslowice also
hosted the inaugural FIVB Beach Volleyball U23 World
Championships earlier this year. It has also hosted the 2011
FIVB Volleyball World League Finals in Gdansk-Sopot and
will host the FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship in
With the experience of the Poland Volleyball Federation
and promoter Tomasz Dowgiallo, I have every confidence
that the 2013 Beach Volleyball World Championships will
be organised with the same level of excellence as the
previous editions.
This Championship features the brightest stars and heroes
in beach volleyball and players will travel from all over the
world to take part in this year’s tournament.
With the retirement of some of beach volleyball‘s greats,
the sport’s landscape has changed but the allure is ever
present. Beach volleyball is growing in popularity reaching
new horizons with more and more countries playing our
beautiful game.
The FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships will be
a showcase of this talent and growth. I expect it to be
tough and exciting in the race for gold. Rome provided
outstanding drama and we are expecting more of the same
in Stare Jablonki.
I would like to congratulate all the players for having
qualified for the FIVB’s most prestigious beach volleyball
tournament and wish them good luck. I’m sure your good
sportsmanship will go hand in hand with good play.
And to the fans, I look forward to enjoying, with you, the
excitement that our wonderful sport have to offer.
