Petr Benes and Premysl Kubala are one of the most experienced teams
competing on the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour, with a combined
aged of 77. The 2012 Stare Jablonki Grand Slam was their last
appearance on the World Tour until they competed in back-to-back
Grand Slams in The Hague and Rome in June this year. Kubala made
his Tour debut in 1996, while Benes made his bow a year later. But it
was not until 2009 that the pair joined together and their appearance
at the 2011 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships was
Kubala’s first appearance in a World Championships since the 1999
tournament in Marseille. He also competed alongside Michael Palinek
at the Los Angeles Olympic Games in 1997. Benes and Kubala have
finished fifth in World Tour events three times; at Stare Jablonki in
2010,
Klagenfurt in 2011 and Rome in 2012. The duo also competed
at the London 2012 Olympic Games, where they finished 17
th
.
