Rome, Italy, June 19 – Rome’s Foro Italico sports complex will become part of the samba nation for the day as two Brazilian sides clash in the men’s final at the FIVB Swatch World Championships Rome 2011 powered by smart.
Alison Cerutti will be out to win his first major title when he and Emanuel Rego go head to head with the latter’s former partner Ricardo Santos and Marcio Araujo.
In the bronze medal match Latvia’s surprise package of Martins Plavins and Janis Smedins will try to pull off one more surprise against 2009 champions Julius Brink and Jonas Reckermann.
Meanwhile Juliana Felisberta Silva and Larissa Franca will try to confirm their status as number one women’s seeds by eventually getting their hands on a World Championships gold medal to sit alongside their two silvers and one bronze.
However, the Brazilians have to overcome Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh, a pair that has twice denied them the world title.
The United States duo, the 2004 and 2008 Olympic champions are also out to be crowned world champions for the fourth time.
China’s Chen Xue and Xi Zhang will take on the Czech Republic’s Hana Klapalova and Lenka Hajeckova for the bronze medal.
