Rome, Italy, June 16 – Reigning champions Julius Brink and Jonas Reckermann are in line to meet top seeds Todd Rogers and Phil Dalhausser in the last 16, provided they win their round of 32 matches on Friday at the FIVB Swatch World Championships Rome 2011 powered by smart.
Brink and Reckermann meet Estonian duo Karl Jaani and Rivo Vesik, whilst Dalhausser and Rogers take on fellow Americans Jake Gibb and Sean Rosenthal.
Kevin Wong and Casey Jennings’ reward for finishing ahead of Dalhausser and Rogers in pool one, is a clash with Clemens Doppler and Matthais Mellitzer of Austria. In the women’s event meanwhile the competition moves to the last 16 and quarterfinals.
There is an all Brazilian match between first seeds Juliana Felisberta Silva and Larissa Franca and the 10th seeded Salgado sisters, Maria Clara and Carolina.
Reigning women champions Jennifer Kessy and April Ross, 2008 Olympic gold medallists Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh and dark horses from the Netherlands Marleen Van Iersel and Sanne Keizer all have German opposition standing between them and the quarterfinals.
