Rome, Italy, June 15 – Former three-time champions Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh made an impressive start to the FIVB Swatch World Championships Rome 2011 powered by smart on day two and will now aim for a third win in their final pool game on day three.
Following wins over Krystina Kolocova and Marketa Slukova of the Czech Republic and then Italy’s Laura Giombini and Valeria Rosso, the Americans now meet Sona Novakova and Tereza Tobiasova.
Women’s top seeds Juliana Felisberta Silva and Larissa Franca, fellow Brazilians Talita Antunes and Maria Antonelli and defending champions April Ross and Jennifer Kessy will also try to finish the pool play unbeaten.
In the men’s draw Todd Rogers and Phil Dalhausser will aim to continue their recovery after an opening loss, but face tricky opponents in France’s Kevin and Andy Ces.
The reigning champions Julius Brink and Jonas Reckermann meanwhile play their second game, against Swiss duo Patrick Heuscher and Jefferson Bellaguarda.
