FIVB U19 World Championships in Porto down to final fours

Porto, Portugal, August 2, 2014 – Eight teams from seven different countries reached the final fours of the double gender FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships in Porto on Saturday. Brazil is the only country that has one team in both the boy’s and girl’s semifinals.

 

Key points

·       Boy’s semifinals: Kovalov/Plotnytskiy (UKR) – Bouter/Van Steenis (NED), Tigrito/Peter (VEN) – Arthur/George Wanderley (BRA).

·       Girl’s semifinals: McNamara/McNamara (CAN) – Schneider/Arnholdt (GER), Adamcikova/Valkova (CZE) – Eduarda/Andressa (BRA).

·       The boy’s semifinals feature one lucky losers team: Bouter/Van Steenis (NED).

·       Eduarda (BRA) is the only one left of last year’s medallists. She won the gold medal with Taina in 2013.

 

South-American semifinal at the U19 World Championships

In an all-South-American semifinal Brazil’s Arthur Diego Mariano and George Wanderley Souto Maior will play Venezuela’s José Gregorio Gomez and Rolando Hernandez on Sunday at the FIVB U19 World Championships. Read more

Dutch lucky losers reach men’s final four in Porto

Jasper Bouter and Tom van Steenis reached the final four of the FIVB U19 World Championships on Saturday with two wins over Poland’s Lysikowski/Jetke (21-15, 21-19) and Austria’s Kratz/Pristauz-Telsnigg (22-20, 18-21, 15-13). Read more

 

Brazil’s Eduarda on track for another medal in Porto

Brazil’s Eduarda Santos Lisboa is right on track for another medal at the FIVB U19 World Championships in Porto. With Andressa Cavalcanti Ramalho at her side she defeated Russia’s Mastikova/Novikova 2-1 (18-21, 21-11, 17-15) in the second round on Friday and later on overpowered Swiss team Rohrer/Gerson 2-0 (21-11, 21-9) to claim a spot in the semifinals. Germany’s Schneider/Arnholdt knock out last year’s silver medallist to reach the final four

Sarah Schneider and Lisa Arnholdt put down their mark at the FIVB U19 World Championships on Saturday. The German girls knocked out last year’s silver medallist Nadezda Makroguzova and her new partner Daria Rudykh to advance into the semifinals. Read more

 

Former world champion ‘Mono’ Baracetti invests in next generation

The name Mariano Joaquín Baracetti should ring a bell with most beach volleyball fans. The now 40-year old Argentinean, better known as ‘Mono’, won the FIVB World Championships in 2001 in Klagenfurt. Baracetti retired in 2009, but now he is back at another FIVB World Championship, the U19 in Porto. Read more

 

The girl’s semifinals are scheduled for 10.00, followed by the boy’s at 11.00. The bronze medal matches are played at 12.30 and 13.30 and the finals at 15.00 and 16.00.

 

Porto is hosting the FIVB U19 World Championships for the third time, following the 2010 and 2013 editions.

 

This year the outside beach courts were situated in the neighbouring town of Matosinhos, a five minutes walk to the north. The centre court and second court are set up on the boulevard in Porto, next to the famous ‘glass building’.
