Eight women’s teams and 16 men’s still standing at Berlin smart Grand Slam

Berlin, Germany, June 20, 2014 - The women’s quarterfinals took shape on Friday at the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour Berlin smart Grand Slam, while the men went down to the last 16.

 

Host country Germany saw their top team Jonathan Erdmann and Kay Matysik eliminated in the pool phase. Second seeded Americans Sean Rosenthal and Phil Dalhauser were knocked out in the first round.

 

The women’s quarterfinal line-up: Ross/Walsh (USA) – Antonelli/Juliana (BRA), Agatha/Seixas (BRA) – Borger/Büthe (GER), Talita/Lima (BRA) – Kolocova/Slukova (CZE), Bawden/Clancy (AUS) - Wang Fan/Yue Y. (CHN).

 

Poland’s Fijalek/Prudel take revenge against Russia

 

Poland’s Grzegorz Fijalek and Mariusz Prudel booked a 2-0 (21-19, 21-14) win over Russia’s Konstantin Semenov and Viacheslav Krasilnikov on Friday in the first knockout round of the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour Berlin smart Grand Slam. Read more

 

Brazil’s Agatha/Seixas knock out European champions in Berlin

 

Brazil’s Agatha Bednarczuk and Barbara Seixas De Freitas knocked out European champions Madelein Meppelink and Marleen van Iersel with a 2-0 (21-16, 23-21) win in the second elimination round of the FIVB Beach Volley World Tour Berlin smart Grand Slam. Read more

 

Flying Dutchmen top the pool with three wins at Berlin Grand Slam

on Stiekema and Christiaan Varenhorst won their third pool match on Friday, to top their pool at the FIVB Beach Volley World Tour Berlin smart Grand Slam. After two straight wins against Schalk/Saxton from Canada and USA’s Rosenthal/Dalhauser on the first day of main draw, the 18th seeded Dutch team needed a third set to defeat Czech team Premysl Kubala and Jan Hadrava: 21-13, 17-21, 15-6. On Saturday the men will kick off at 8.00 with the second elimination round, followed by the women’s quarterfinals, the men’s quarterfinals and the women’s semifinals. The men’s semis and the medal matches for both genders are scheduled for Sunday.

 

The $800.000 Berlin smart Grand Slam is the fourth of seven Grand Slams on the European continent. Next week the World Tour will move to Norway for the FIVB Stavanger Grand Slam.
