August 8, 2013, Moscow, Russia - The first press-conference of the FIVB Beach Volleyball Moscow Grand Slam 2013 was held at the international multimedia centre "Ria Novosti" in the capital of Russia on Thursday.

The competition will be held from August 21 to 25 at the Beach Sports centre "Dinamo" on Vodniy Stadium. The tournament will bring together 128 top teams of the world, who will compete for $440,000 in prize money. This is first time the new venue will host the popular tournament having been played on the courts of Poklonnaya Gora in the city centre for the past five years.

The press-conference was attended by the, Marina Shcherbakova from Russian Volleyball Federation and the bronze medalist of Universiade-2013 in Kazan, winner of Anapa Open this year Yaroslav Koshkarev.

"This year, after five years, our tournament is moving to the new venue. Beach volleyball in Moscow, and other beach sports in this city, have found their new home,” tournament director Ilya Volodarsky said. “I am confident that the change of venue will play a good role for our competition. The place at Vodniy Stadium is very interesting and attractive for the public - the nature, clean air and even the beach. In terms of the sports components, nothing has changed. Our stage is still one of the best in the world from this point of view, from the point of view of the organization."

"For the first time in the history Russia is hosting two international beach volleyball tournaments. Not so long ago Anapa Open was held in the south city of Russia and the Moscow Grand Slam will take place in two weeks in our capital,” Russian Volleyball Federation representative Marina Shcherbakova said. “Beach volleyball in our country is being developing, amount of people at the stands is growing from year to year. This year we are expecting also for foreign fans. We received a lot of requests from the embassies of different countries, asking about the competition. So, we waiting for everybody at Vodniy Stadium.”

Anapa Open champion and 2013 Universiade bronze medallist Yaroslav Koshkarev is hoping he can cap of a memorable year with a great performance in the new venue at the Moscow Grand Slam.

"The season turns out very tough. It started with the World Championships in Poland, then the Universiade, the great Anapa Open before the European Championships in Austria which, unfortunately, ended for me with an injury. A final point in this series will be the Grand Slam in Moscow. I'd like to invite our fans. I think that it will be a great crowd at Vodniy Stadium, despite the move from Poklonnaya Gora. As for me and my health, now I feel much better and hope to show my best in Moscow, " Yaroslav concluded.

Volodarsky also highlighted some of the special events planned for fans this year:

"We are running already some promo in the social networks where players are holding special signs "Russia. Moscow. Vodniy stadium". Top players from the world of beach-volley accepted our proposal and invited all the lovers of this sport to come to the matches of the Moscow Grand Slam. Our tournament will be the last in the career of one of the most famous couples in the world beach volleyball – the Netherlands’ Reinder Nummerdor / Richard Schuil announced they will retirement after the Moscow event. We are planning a special farewell ceremony.

“In addition, various master classes for fans and children. Famous athletes, including Igor "Bazuka" Kolodinski - one of the most famous beach volleyball players in the past, silver medallist of the 2007 World Championship, who has returned to volleyball, will visit the Moscow Grand Slam's matches. We are also planning side events for the audience and the whole family. It's going to be a fantastic tournament."

The competition will start on August, 21 with qualification matches. The games will be played every day from morning till the late evening. Medals in both men and women competitions will be awarded on Sunday, August 25.
