The Canadian waterfront city of Halifax became the first city to host back-to-back FIVB Beach Volleyball SWATCH Junior World Championships in 2012 after successfully welcoming the annual event last year.
The six-day tournament took place from August 29 to September 2 and featured a Main Draw of 32 teams for the first time as the competition for players under 21 continued to grow in both size and stature. An enthusiastic crowd descended on the capital of Nova Scotia province to take in the action.
Switzerland’s Nina Betschart and Anouk Verge-Depre were crowned women’s world champions on that occasion, with Betschart joining Brazil’s Carolina Salgado (2004 and 2005) in event history to win gold in back-to-back years and both did it each year with different partners as well. Brazil’s Drussyla Costa and Rebecca Silva captured silver and Australia’s Mariafe Artacho andTaliqua Clancy claimed bronze.
