Fuzhou, China, June 21, 2012 – Kazakhstan and Thailand succeeded on
their efforts on the second day of the AVC Beach Volleyball Continental Cup
Final Round of 16 at Min River Park on Thursday.
Kazakhstan outlasted the arduous challenge put on by the New Zealand
team. The Kazakh 3-1 victory was a difficult task, as they had very little room
to close all three tiebreaker sets. Enduring the intensity of New Zealand was
an exhausting responsibility for Kazakhstan but nevertheless had to be done to
be able to move on to the quarterfinals.
As Dyachenko/Sidorenko were routed by Ben O’Dea/Sam O’Dea in their
encounter, the Yakovlev/Kuleshov tandem proved to be the winning Kazakh pair
that drew the last straw for the O’Deas.
Thailand ruled over Bahrain in all its matches and exhibited good
recovery from every setback. Sangkhachot/Sukto had no difficulty defeating the
Bahraini pair Ali/Mohammed but had a bumpy confrontation with Hassan/Aqueel
during the first and second sets. Bahrain eventually gave in to the Thai surge
and ended its campaign for the Olympic qualification.
Kazakhstan will face another tough opponent, as they will go up
against top seeds Australia. Oman will challenge Indonesia, Iran will match-up
with Japan, while China will play its first match in the competition against
Thailand.
