CAVB Continental Cup provides success for African referees

Referee Delegate Anton Pevc with Africa's international referees during the CAVB Women's Continental Cup in Rwanda

Gusenyi, Rwanda, May 29, 2012 – The CAVB Women’s Continental Cup final in Rwanda provided another chance for African referees to gain further experience, with all illustrating a great level of efficiency throughout the tournament.

Nine of Africa's international referees took part in the finals at Palm Beach in Gusenyi, Rwanda on Saturday namely; Giovanni Bake (South Africa), Hazem Sherbini, Djamel Burghuel (Algeria), Rodrgiue Deuboue (Cameroon), Amina Sergany and Zidan (Egypt), Ntateteri (Rwanda) and Hannington Nsubuga (Uganda).

Beside their role in conducting the matches of the competition, they also did their utmost to ensure that the court officials (line judges and scorers) maintained the level of efficiency required.

Additionally, they acted as remarkable role models for the younger and less-experienced national referees, something admired  by FIVB Beach Volleyball Department director Angelo Squeo.

The CAVB Control Committee for the competition also praised their commitment and willingness to remain a key part of the development process for African Referees.

Africa currently has 12 international and candidate referees from Algeria, Cameroon, Egypt, Rwanda, Uganda and South Africa. This has increased by nine in just 20 months.
